2.) Trust - Boys only listen to people they trust. How do you create and maintain it? (11m 8s)
3.) Why boys dislike school and what we can do about it (11m 35s)
Last week I had the privilege of meeting two cool guys. They showed up right on time as promised in a van that had seen better days. The men looked like they hadn’t been on the job for long. In fact, the younger of the two seemed to be fresh out of secondary school.
These two men were dressed in worn tee-shirts and appeared quite grubby. Their hands were stained black. You see, they came to service my air-conditioning units. What struck me first was how polite they were … the older of the two asked why I had called. I explained that the A/C unit in my bedroom had a red light. He checked on it and with a grin pointed out to me that the red light was because I had accidentally pressed a control button.
Then he had a look at the A/C in the living room and said, “Kak, I can’t service this unit because it’s covered outside with wood paneling.” He went on to say that, if anyone tells me he could do it, that person is trying to make a fast buck as the job simply could not be done! “Someone could just hang around here, pretend to do the job while having a good smoke … and make you pay for it,” he added. Which was exactly what happened the last time I called someone else to do it.
Not only was I struck by the honesty of these two men and the air of dignity with which they carried themselves … On their way out, I pressed the switch to close the automated gate and then I heard the bell. They wanted to alert me that the gate wasn’t properly closed. Needless to say, I was impressed with their character. These two young men had truly been raised well. There’s no doubt who I would call the next time I need someone to clean up my A/C units.
