Marriage

Power Parent Tip of The Day [44]

There was once a woman who was married to a man for twenty years. Every day, she would complain to her good friend and neighbour about her husband – how he didn’t do the things he was supposed to do, that he forgot to do this and that. It was as if there was nothing good in him, as if he never made her happy. It was as if he was her sole “source of misery”.

One day, the unhappy woman’s husband suddenly died. Her good friend and neighbour came over to visit her, expecting her to be full of joy now that her “source of misery” was gone for good. But all she found was the new widow weeping and lamenting with so much sadness about her loss; it was as if her now-dead husband was the most charming man on earth.

This is what some people call “The Married Woman’s List” versus “The Widow’s List”. Likewise for men, “The Married Man’s List” versus “The Widower’s List”. Same person, different perspective. Sometimes you get so hung up with what your spouse doesn’t do that you fail to see the good things he or she does until it’s too late. Which side are you?
