I participated in the Santuni Rakyat Program at Angsana, Johor Bahru yesterday, 26 January 2019. My presence was partly to support the launching of Bicara Keluarga initiative by LPPKN, intended to reach out to the masses and raise awareness on contemporary parenting challenges.

I gave a short 6-minute impromptu speech on how parents or individuals could connect with their children or anyone using the 5S method:  1. Senyum (smile), 2. Salam (greet), 3. Sapa (Say something nice), 4. Sentuh (touch) and 5. Santuni (treat positively), based on the 5S work ethic in Japan.

Later, the Deputy PM came to the LPPKN booth and did the soft launch of the program.

I visited the LPPKN Family and Community Empowerment (FACE) initiative at Perumahan Laman Tasek Pandan housing area. They had a great community initiative to plant chillis within their neighbourhood, supported by the state government. The community worked together, ensuring that the plants were watered, harvested and sold at a nearby vegetable market. Really heartening to listen to the volunteers who eagerly shared their wonderful experiences.

A lot more work need to be done to empower families and communities to improve their lives.
