Eight outstanding women in distinct fields were recognised as “Inspiring Women of Malaysia” in conjunction with the International Women’s Day celebration at Suria KLCC.

They are founder and managing director of a corporate secretarial services organisation Alwizah Al Yafii Kamal, world number one squash player Datuk Nicol David, Malaysia’s first astrophysicist Datuk Dr Mazlan Othman, women’s rights activist Ivy Josiah, motivational book author Jamilah Samian, Malaysia’s first woman MiG-29 fighter pilot Major Patricia Yapp, Malaysia’s first woman High Court judge Tan Sri Norma Yaakob and singer and songwriter Yuna Zarai.

Suria KLCC Sdn Bhd chief executive officer and executive director Andrew Brien said: “These women were selected based on outstanding accomplishments in their respective areas and the significant impact they have had.”

He added that by relating their stories to the public, the shopping mall hoped to inspire more women to realise their full potential and venture into any field that their heart desires.

Until March 15, the public can visit the International Women’s Day exhibition at the ground floor of Suria KLCC to learn more about these women’s life journey and achievements.

The exhibition with the theme, “Inspire and be inspired,” features illustrations of the inspiring women done by artists like Ainaa Mahira Ismail, Abigail Asrin Amiruddin, Caryn Koh Hooi San, Marlisa Muhaiyuddin, Mutmainnah Abdul Rahman, Nur Izzati Mohamad Zain and Nurasyikin Mukhtar.

Suria KLCC also donated RM5,000 to the Women’s Aid Organisation which helps women and children suffering from mental, physical and sexual abuse.
