Yesterday’s speech at Toastmasters, Bankers’ Club was the hardest in a long time. Not because it was long; but I had to craft and present a humorous speech, with an impactful and serious message. My initial thought was, “Give me anything, but a humorous speech!” After sitting on the project for months, rewriting, researching, analyzing, rewriting again and again, I finally decided on a final copy, rehearsing when I could.
Several days prior to presenting, I was down with viral fever, and somehow my cherubic six-month-old granddaughter found the printed script and chewed the edges. I saw her just in time to save it before it turned into tatters.
The “Best Speaker” award was totally unexpected. Alhamdulillah.
I guess everyone has a mountain to climb at some point in their lives. Maybe you’re climbing one now, too. The most important thing is to never give up, have patience with yourself. You just might be surprised at what you can do.
